Support for the Music, Art, and Entertainment Industry.
We need to talk about it.
Arts and entertainment have provided so much to other people. We listen to music, experience visual art, dance, theater, movies, shows, performance art, and have the opportunity to feel something. Committing to this industry can be frustrating, grueling, draining, emotional, vulnerable, as well as exciting and fulfilling. For creators and performers, resources are available to provide support. However, even with these resources, barriers to care still exist.
It can be inconvenient to ask for help; not all environments in this industry are supportive of mental health care, and stigma is still present in most cases. Other barriers include the costs of treatment, a lack of health insurance, no paid time off, irregular work hours, and finding professionals who are familiar with these careers.
Continuing to raise awareness of the need for mental health support is crucial to ensure that help is available for those artists and crew members who need it.
